Bow Tie Origins
The accessory has Croatian roots dating back to the 17th century. Not known as a bow tie, the ancestry of today’s modern neckwear was called a cravat. When well- to-do men of the Upper French class started wearing them, popularity grew. At the end of its evolution we were left with what we now call, a bow tie.
According to The Bow Tie “The bow tie first entered the scene as a new style of necktie in the beginning of the 19th century; a modification of its predecessor, the cravat. By the mid-1880s, the accessory had become a staple in the fashion conscious man’s wardrobe.”
