SUITS & SAZERACS: WHISKEY FOR A CAUSE!
THE CHARITABLE COCKTAIL COMPETITION IS BACK FOR ITS SECOND YEAR AND BENEFITS CAREER WARDROBE
Philadelphia, PA – January 22, 2020 – Henry A. Davidsen: Master Tailors & Image Consultants, Philadelphia’s premier purveyor of custom men’s clothing, is pleased to announce the second installment of Suits & Sazeracs, a spirited cocktail competition and charitable fundraiser benefitting local nonprofit, Career Wardrobe, on Monday, February 24, from 6-9 pm at the Hotel Palomar. The event is presented in partnership with Bluebird Distilling, Square 1682 and Lucky Dog Studio and raised over $5,000 in 2018.
Suits & Sazeracs, a New Orleans-inspired evening taking place on the eve of Mardi Gras, is offering guests samples of unique Sazerac creations crafted by eight of Philadelphia’s top bartenders utilizing Bluebird Distilling’s Straight Rye Whiskey. In addition to the NOLA classic cocktail, there will be a live band and passed hors d’oeuvres including cajun-spiced waffle fries, shrimp po’boy sliders, New Orleans-style beignets, and more courtesy of Square 1682’s Executive Chef Mackenson Horebe. The fundraiser will kick off Henry A. Davidsen’s Suit Drive Challenge, aimed at securing 7,500 donations of new and gently used men’s and women’s attire that supports the non-profit’s mission of providing a professional wardrobe to unemployed and low-income Philadelphians seeking employment.
“We’re thrilled to bring back Suits & Sazeracs – our popular cocktail competition and fundraiser benefitting Career Wardrobe,” said Henry A. Davidsen President and Founder, Brian Lipstein. “We’re expanding the fundraiser so that we can not only provide high-quality attire to those in need but much needed financial support, all while bringing Philadelphians together for a cocktail for a cause!”
Competing bartenders include:
- Christian Diaz of Square 1682
- Nicole Testa of Prohibition Taproom
- Kelly Derrig of Standard Tap
- RJ Arnold of Red Owl Tavern
- Kevin Forge of Bud & Marilyn’s
- Micah Edwards of Roy Pitz Barrel House
- Chris Zingler of Destination Dogs Philadelphia
- Tom Kwiatkwoski of Cook & Shaker
At the event, attendees will have the chance to vote for “People’s Choice” of best Sazerac, while notable judges, including former Eagles player Fred Barnett, Bluebird Distilling’s Founder and Master Distiller Jared Adkins, and Henry A. Davidsen’s Brian Lipstein, a certified whisky ambassador and bourbon steward himself, will honor one bartender with the Judge’s Choice Award. Guests will also have the opportunity to “buy” additional votes with 100% of proceeds benefitting Career Wardrobe. The winning bartender will be rewarded with a cash prize and products courtesy of Bluebird Distilling worth $500. Guests bringing clothing donations to the event will receive 1 bonus vote.
“We can’t wait to sample this year’s unique Sazeracs from Philly’s best bartenders!” said Bluebird Distilling’s Jared Adkins. “It was amazing to see how much money we raised in 2018 and we look forward to beating that number in 2020.”
Additionally, attendees can get in on the action and will be in the running to win “Men’s Best Dressed” and “Women’s Best Dressed,” judged by The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Fashion & Lifestyle Columnist, Elizabeth Wellington, and Philadelphia-based fashion insider and influencer Brian Chan. Guests are encouraged to dress in their New Orleans best to receive a $250 gift certificate courtesy of Henry A. Davidsen as well as a $100 gift certificate to Bluebird Distilling.
Tickets for Suits & Sazeracs are available here (suitsandsazeracs.com) for $65, and a portion of each ticket purchase will benefit Career Wardrobe.
Henry A. Davidsen’s Suit Drive Challenge will carry on through the middle of April and give Philadelphians the chance to donate gently-used suits, ties, jackets, shirts, pants, belts, and shoes in support of local unemployed men and women. More information to follow.
“When Brian reached out to us and asked if we wanted to be part of Suits & Sazeracs again this year, we didn’t think twice,” said Square 1682’s General Manager Daniel Tyrrell. “It is important for us to give back to local organizations. And what better way than with a Sazerac in hand?”
